Comparing the French Lieutenants Woman and Jewel in the Crown Essay

Similarities between French Lieutenants Woman and Jewel in the top of the inning John Fowless French Lieutenants Woman and Paul Scotts Jewel in the top of the inning are cardinal literary works that illustrate continuity in British literature over time. While French Lieutenants Woman is placed in...the Victorian era and Jewel in the pennant depicts events in... the twentieth ampere-second . . ., the two exhibit similar thematic content. Both works punctuate the importance of affable stature, both portray societys view of whats acceptable in the intimate relationships of women, and both are stories in which two yellowish browns are together regardless of whether or not society approves. The portrayal of mixer statures in French Lieutenants Woman is rather simple. Other than Sarah Woodruff, the characters are of the wealthy stop number class. Sarah is described as a poor but educated muliebrity who has lost her reputation. Other characters include Charles Smithson, a we althy gentleman who becomes Sarahs lover Ernistina Freeman, Charles fiance and daughter of a wealthy businessman Mr. Freeman, Ernestinas father, a roaring businessman who aspires to the upper class by marrying his daughter into a higher class... and Ms. Poultney, a wealthy widow who takes in Sarah Woodruff to belittle and humiliate. Social statures pictured in Jewel in the Crown are more complex race also plays into the social status of its characters. The main character of the recital is Daphne discretion, who starts off as upper class but is later demoted to that Manners girl due to an inter-racial relationship with Hari Kumar.
